Yes Day! by Amy Krouse Rosenthal (2009)

I had the best time with a "Yes Day!" by Rosenthal and a group of preschoolers. We read the book (with them calling out the unwritten "yes!" refrain for each page). Then we had a great discussion of all the sorts of things they would like to do on a "yes day." I have a whiteboard on the back of my flannelboard, and I wrote all their ideas down.
Afterward I said, "finding opportunities to write with your kids is a great way to build print awareness." Next time I read this with a group, we'll add an activity on the end where they draw a picture of something they would do on a "yes day," and then the parent will take dictation and write down the child's description of their picture below it.
