Toot, Toot, Zoom by Phyllis Root (2009)

Pierre is off to the other side of the mountain, in his trusty red car, to find a friend. Along the way he meets Goat and Sheep and Bear and they all have a grand adventure. This book worked well with preschoolers. The repetition of “toot, toot, zoom” throughout the story is great fun and keeps younger kids engaged. It’s also great for narrative skills since the kids can use what they know about friendship to predict that Pierre has already made friends by the time he reaches the other side of the mountain!
