The Little Rabbit Who Liked to Say MOO by Jonathan Allen (2008)

book jacket

Since rabbits don’t have a big noise, Little Rabbit tries out other animal’s sounds. He attracts the attention of Calf, Lamb, Piglet, Baby Donkey and Duckling, and all animals practice making each other’s sounds.

The book provides opportunities to share messages about multiple early literacy skills. The repetitive structure of the book lends itself to narrative skills ; children can easily predict the next action of the book. There are also opportunities for vocabulary building, as children learn the words for baby animals.

Finally, the giant font used for the animal sounds shouts print awareness right off the page, providing the opportunity for children to loudly moo, neigh, quack, etc. along with the reader.
