Besides mesmerizing kids (print motivation ) with the variety of superheros, this one highlights every early literacy skill. Lots of creative vocabulary (alert, asteroids, alien, asthma, just on the first page). Great letter recognition , with capital and lower case. Narrative skills because there’s so much to talk and ask about with each superhero. Phonological awareness : alliteration all over the place. Print awareness from the varied size, color, and placement of words.

I hand out foam letters to my preschoolers before I read this book, asking them to hold up their letter when they see it in the book.  After we read the book, I say to the parents, "helping your child find letters she knows throughout the day is a great way to work on letter recognition ."
