Rhyming Dust Bunnies by Jan Thomas (2009)

book jacket

As three dust bunnies, Ed, Ned, and Ted, are demonstrating how much they love to rhyme, a fourth, Bob, is trying to warn them of approaching danger.

This simple colorful book will become a quick storytime favorite for children ages 3 to 5 year olds.  An Interactive book, the bunnies speak directly to their readers and ask them for words that rhyme with the words they are saying. With words like car and cat these simplest of  words are perfect for even the youngest preschoolers to chime in and participate with rhyming words they know.  The dust bunnies go on to shout out their own answers to rhyming words and most likely all the words the preschoolers came up with. A conversation can be started  coming up with the many rhyming words that are not on the page so children can see the variety of similar sounding words.   If you are looking for a book with phonological awareness to share with your group this is one that they will love and after a few reads the preschoolers will surely know a few sets of rhyming words and what "rhyming" actually means.  And the fate of the dust bunnies at the end of the book will surely get a laugh from the young readers!
