Penguin by Polly Dunbar (2007)

While reading this, I spent some time with the kids puzzling out the picture language of the penguin at the end of the book. After we had figured out what it meant, I said to my preschoolers, "You just READ those pictures! Did you know that you can read pictures just like you read words? Great job!" Then to the parents: "reading pictures, just like reading letters, is a kind of print awareness that helps build literacy skills."
