OK Go by Carin Berger  (2009)

book jacket

This brand new book is a very fun interactive storytime choice. With 4-5 year olds I read the book once talking about the letters O,K,G, & O and their knowledge of Print Awareness helped them to read the book a second time with me. I helped out by pointing to each incident of the word Go! They all knew what to say when the page was a double spread the color of a red stopsign. Paired with Getting There by Marla Stewart Konrad (J629.04 k82g 2009 beginning facts) we talked about all the different ways there are to go somewhere, especially if you don't want to use a car. Asking the children how they got to school, or the library is an opportunity for them to engage in some Narrative Skill practice (and they can go on and on and on about how they got somewhere). I addressed the adults in the room, letting them know that the different sizes and frequency of the word Go! is great for practicing Letter Knowledge  and Print Awareness. The book's purpose is to introduce the notion of "going green," but overall it is just plain fun to say Go! So many times.
