April Wilson's Magpie Magic: A Tale of Colorful Mischief by April Wilson (1999)

book jacket

In preschool storytime we "read" Magpie Magic using dialogic reading techniques.  Before reading the book, I let the children know that most of the time when we read books we read the words, but sometimes we can tell the story just by looking at the pictures and telling our own story about what's happening in the pictures.

Sample parent message: "Letting your children tell the story helps them learn narrative skills , which are an important part of reading comprehension."
