Guess Who I Am by Liebet Slegers  (2008)

book jacket

This extra easy guessing game book is just right for babies and can work with toddlers too.  A two page spread shows portions of the animal we need to guess (the head and feet of a chicken, for example) and has a description too (“I have a beak and funny feet.  Who Am I?”  Open the gate flap to see the whole animal.  The pictures show so much of an animal that even the youngest readers will likely guess it, but it’s still satisfying to see the whole thing.  For toddlers, you might just say the words first, then show the partial picture, to make it a bit challenging.  Either way, there’s rich early vocabulary in the descriptive words (whiskers, sniff, curly, scales…) and good print motivation with the peek-a-boo element.  Slegers has several peek-a-boo/guessing game books good for the youngest listeners.
