Grumpy Bird by Jeremy Tankard (2007)

When bird woke up he was grumpy! He decides he's too grumpy to fly so he sets out on a walk. Even though he grumbles at everyone he sees, his friends join him on his walk one by one. Eventually the walk turns into a game of follow the leader and Grumpy Bird, as you might suspect, finds himself having a lot of fun. This book lends itself to storytime with its beautiful, bright pictures. It's also a book that kids and parents can relate to. In every group, where I have used this book, I've heard a parent make reference to a grumpy moment they or their child have had recently. Parent message: This book is a nice way to talk about moods and feelings with your child. This books is also great for narrative skills in that the repetition allows kids to predict what will happen next.
