Flip, Flap, Fly! by Phyllis Root (2009)

Nicely flowing, rhythmic rhymes make this great for phonological awareness. There’s also a neat guessing game element for narrative skills. “’Fly!’ cheeps the baby bird. ‘Way up high!’ / so the mama helps the baby bird flip flap fly / in the blue, blue sky, where the wind blows whish. / ‘Look!’ cheeps the baby bird. ‘I see a….” Then you turn the page to reveal the animal. Each animal get helped by their mama and it ends very satisfyingly with a human child who sees “Babies everywhere!”
