First the Egg by Laura Seeger (2007)

book jacket

Die cuts and page turns reveal that an egg becomes a chicken, a tadpole becomes a frog, and other simple transformations.  The illustrations and design make this great for group sharing.  Very simple and brief, but it has great potential for dialogic reading.  Obviously there's the interaction where kids can guess what the first picture will turn into.  But there's also a wordless illustration that shows an in-between stage: the chrysalis between the caterpillar and butterfly, the sprout between the seed and flower.  Great potential for vocabulary and modeling how talking about the pictures can expand the book and how reading a book more than once leads to new discoveries.
