The First Music by Dylan Pritchett (pronounced Die-lun, not Dill-lun) (2006)
This folk tale set in Africa has plenty of opportunities for phonological awareness - different animals contribute different rhythms to make beautiful music together. There are also lots of onomatopoeic vocabulary opportunities, too, with words like: yelped, hooted, groaned, screeched, snorted and rustled, as well as vocab like: hollow, perched and swayed. It is a perfect book for use with a group that can't sit still!
