Elizabetis Doll
Page history last edited by stevene@... 3 mos ago
After attending the Kindergarten summit yesterday I got thinking about how to foster the higher order thought processes in storytime (dialogic reading). We read an oldie but a goodie- Elizabeti's Doll by Stuvee-Bodeen. Before reading it I told the children that this story took place in another country far away and that in some ways her life was like ours and in some ways very different, so as we read through the book we stopped many times to see if it was the same or different- the same: Have a mom, little brother, babbies wear diapers, take baths, have chickens, eat rice. Different: our children have a doll (or many dolls), have running water at their house (one girl claimed they had no water at their house), carry heavy things just in their hands rather than on top of their heads. Then I got to give a message about how comparing things is a very important skill to develop. It was very engaging for all. I love that book!
