Aside from being an amazingly interesting book, like so much nonfiction it is a great book to promote narrative skills. We had amazing discussions of art and I was surprised that some of the children had an understanding of the difference between abstract and representational art. I frequently do a little commercial for the benefits of nonfiction for increasing word and world knowledge aka vocabulary.
