El Globito Rojo by Iela Mari (2006)

El Globito Rojo by Iela Mari is a wonderful new wordless book for storytime. The bold illustrations begin with a child blowing a bubble (circle), that becomes a balloon. Along the way the balloon is transformed into a butterfly, a flower, etc. We had a great conversation around the book in preschool storytime with the children telling the story along the way, practicing their narrative skills . At the end of the book I said (to the children) something like: "An interesting thing about this book is that there are no words on the pages so we told our own story by looking at the pictures. You can read any book that way, by telling your own story."
