Close to You: How Animals Bond, by Kimiko Kajikawa (2008)

A great book for family-themed storytimes, Valentine's Day or a Pajama Time geared towards Tiny Tots and up.  Each two-page spread features adult and baby animals with a short text message, i.e. "Polar Bears cuddle in a den of snow."  Great for vocabulary (cuddle, nestle, pucker, lounge, etc., as well as animals with which children might not be familiar, such as porcupines, manatees and sea lions), as well as print awareness with the large print surrounded by lots of white space.  There is even some phonological awareness with the rhyme scheme from page to page.  The book also features additional information about how adult animals interact with their young, as well as a weight chart for the animals featured in the book.  Great non-fiction title to share in storytime!
