Bruno Munari's Zoo by Bruno Munari (1963, republished 2005)

I had this book on my shelf for a long time before I worked up the nerve to try it at storytime. Both the preschoolers and their parents loved it. It has lovely simple illustrations with one sentence. Some of them are accurate, some ridiculous, some magnificent. "For the hoppopotamus the swimming pool is always too small" "Flamingos know they are beautiful and strange and play at symmetry." The book introduces lovely vocabulary and many opportunites for discussion.
