Alphabet Under Construction by Denise Fleming (2002)

As mouse airbrushes the A, buttons the B, and so on, this book introduces rich vocabulary, with a verb for every letter of the alphabet.  Clearly printed upper case letters foster letter recognition.  Meanwhile, the actual letters that mouse works with are made out of brick, cake, and other unusual materials, which extends the letter identification and brings in print awareness concepts.  Fleming's vibrant colors and a very personable mouse add to the appeal.
