A Visitor for Bear by Bonny Becker (2008)

I read this charming story to my preschoolers, and then we talked about Bear's sign. The book lends itself to both letter knowledge and print awareness . I told the children that signs could be made of letters, words, or pictures. I showed them a few pages from a Tana Hoban book, I Read Symbols, and we tried to decipher the signs. Then we all made our own signs, using this template. (Some fantastic signs were created, among my favorites: No Carrots, No Finn (the big brother), No Opening Upper Drawers (?), and the classic No Grown Ups.)
